robert rental was the stage name of robert donnachie (1952?2000), a british pioneer of post-punk, diy, and industrial music. originally from port glasgow, scotland, he moved to the south of england with thomas leer in the late 1970s where he met glenn michael wallis. glenn was recording music with the group heute and leaving to start his solo projects nkvd and konstruktivists. both were heavily involved with throbbing gristle and the industrial records crew. in the summer of 1979, robert invited glenn to his studio in battersea to jam. robert on guitar and glenn on an edp wasp synthesizer. for each session that summer they would play for about 40 minutes, maybe longer, stoned. robert suggested they record it, many times erasing and over recording one session for the next. the music had no titles, as they were never intended to be released. on these recordings, robert enjoyed playing like robert fripp of king crimson, while glenn channeled wolfgang flur of kraftwerk. influenced by krautrock bands like can, neu!, cluster/harmonia, as well as terry riley and brian eno the duo forged a unqiue brand of industrial music. tape loops and synthesizer sounds played backward conjure dark ambient moods. all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the lp is housed in a jacket that features a drawing by robert rental from glenn?s archives as well as a handwritten note from robert to glenn. each copy includes 2 photo postcards featuring a transcription of robert?s letter and liner notes from glenn wallis.

for ws021 we head to italy where we find a duo by the name of concret aka italo-mexican musician diego angelico escobar and producer q-pha. together, they submit a couple of ethereal, stripped-back and driving techno tracks that compliment each other so well they appear to be brother and sister from the same session. on remix duty we ve got another italian, rodion, who ads his signature sound to ritorno and flips it into a laid-back dark groover. last but not least is uk s heretic, aka timothy clerkin, who remixes andata into a classy acid burner fit for a massive warehouse party or dark, sweaty basement.

as proprietors of the will & ink label, yaleesa hall & malin genie have been maintaining a busy and consistent release schedule of top notch techno sounds, largely releasing their own, well received, productions. the duo appeared on hypercolours 10 years compilation in 2016 with the excellent buchan trap, and weve been blessed to secure a full single release with the on-point pair. the mechanical funk of artin swings with plenty of assured groove, the shuffling hats, dense kicks and dubby stabs that ping pong across this fierce production mark this out as a real killer cut. dario & marco zenker, aka the zenker brothers, take time out from their busy ilian tape operations to remix artin into a brutal yet funky techno goliath. congas perpetually roll forward, with frenetic 909 hats and raw and ready stabs in what may well be one of the zenkers finest remixes to date. the essence of funk continues in hall & malins music, with cahen, a great slab of compelling techno that never slips too far into darkness, instead keeping an ever evolving groove and some abstract drone like synthesis to keep the mood buoyant. wrapping up the release is brown, a track that finishes as urgently as it starts, perhaps with a cap doffed to the purpose maker sounds of a certain jeff mills, but broadening the palette to allow some trippy sound architecture and an effective breakdown mid way through. modern day techno supplied by a duo that will most certainly flourish over the coming months, yaleesa hall & malin deliver the goods aplomb on this hypercolour single.

in october 2016, members from the afro cuban band compro oro, funk and soul congregation big whoop and electronic duo sue avenue, submitted themselves to the windowless walls of the desolated buildings of the american theatre in brussels (be) to engage in experiment. the resulting nine hours and forty minutes of jams were edited and arranged to the final tracks on this carrier.

finally the long-awaited second series of invisible family outings has arrived.label boss and compiler gk machine has this to say beyond ecstatic to get these tracks out. the gazeebo track i ve been playing in my sets for years. digital only but so great it definitely needed to get pressed onto wax! i would dj with it using ableton and speed it up a lot so for the vinyl i asked jon (nedza) who ive been a huge fan of since his community recordings releases on grayhound and imperial dub, whether he could speed it up a little bit before we pressed it up. now its 100% perfect: a moroder-esque cosmic stomper thats sure to set any dancefloor alight. the apiento track is another one that s been gestating for a long time first appearing around the time the original e.s.p. 12inch appeared on the wonderful golf channel recordings in 2014. secret circuit gave it a complete overhaul, in fact several complete overhauls, plus some of his signature guitar and has turned the already blissful track into an afro-esque, trippy, beautiful, beautiful piece of music that (imo) is one of his best yet. utterly gorgeous! then there s the boy-girl retro-future duo der kundalini coming from the wonderful lectric sands stable in ny who gave us zoovox. this one s also been hiding on my hard drive way too long! finally relative newcomers konzel (of junto club/optimo music fame) & natural sugars (pardon my french) round off the package just perfectly. the former so distinct that i felt it was a perfect opener for the a side. so, i hope you dig it and keep an eye out for the super limited 12-track cassette too! limited to 300 hand-numbered copies.

after some succesful releases by struktur, the time has come to step into the world of the vinyl medium. struktur has something special for its first vinyl release. schuw is an enigmatic duo from amsterdam focussed on shaky techno and hip-dislocating meta dance. after releasing tracks on tape and cd, schuw complete the physical trinity with the vinyl release of the rasza vega ep. the a-side features title track rasza vega - one of their most precious and well-known gems known for its harsh drums and colourful chords. it is accompanied by purple knives, which provides a fresh and eclectic take on contemporary techno, reflecting their ever-growing synthesis and endless inner divergence. the b-side consists of the highly explosive blacksmith, inspired by traditional japanese drum patterns and western industrialism. grieche delivers a formidable remix of blacksmith, contributing a minimalized and hypnotizing contrast to complete the already heavily divers selection.

next stop for echovolt s regular catalog is two post-summer tear-jerker workouts by this great polish duo! earth trax & newborn jr. started their collaboration in 2016 with a release on rhythm section from peckham, london. their new offering follows the same principles - ecstatic and slightly nostalgic. a side (bailando) utilizes famous solid/lately bass sound with a modern twist and features additional work by annjet who layered lush pads on top of it. b side (aquamarine) is a hypnotic uptempo workout with sparkling keys, sizzling hihats and a powerful bass line.

nice price deal !!! following our quest for inventive approaches within the sometimes tired and highly commodified house / tech house / techno / minimal or whatever you call it scene, we ve gone this time for landesvatter. regardless of having already signed a few full lenght lps on the highly esteemed normoton as well as on under_line and others, joachim landesvatter prefers to keep a low-key atittude. he offers us two great tracks, each one followed by a very special remix. the original of nome is a highly bouncy digitech house track for the dancefloor, with an infectious sinewave to keep you hooked from beggining to end. the remix of nome, in charge of arp aubert (marco niemerski aka tensnake & stephan lorenz) who run the great mirau musik, comes on the form of a hysterical dub house track that literally puts >the roof in the air<. we recommended for full effect to keep the volume on the red. as usual, the second half of the release follows at a quieter pace. hausse is a track on a out to lunch tradition, greatly influenced by detroit but at the same time distancing itself from the current plethora of nostalgics. in-house duo taron-trekka closes the package with a deep remix, rich on freaky jazz touches. we lack words to describe it.

after the world applauded sascha funke for his latest album lotos land, he gave away some tunes to friends for remix duties. düsseldorf based tolouse low trax formed twirl into a foggy dark mpc-seducer for romantic nighthawks that love dancing. also australian boy dreems prepared a remix that grooves odd and uncommon. his percussive version of im feiern und feuer is a slow whirlwind, perfect to start and end a great dj night. with tuff city kids a duo formed a remix that is good for big room love affairs. their version of purple hill is a heartfelt melange between trance and house deepness that works on any dance floor. the final edit comes from glasgows junto club, who transformed comola, a tune that they already produced originally with sascha funke, into a longing dark melodic synth stepper. four versions, four hits, four atmospheric dimensions beyond words. tune it loud!

staatsfeinde… dutch synth duo staatseinde finally releases their debut ep on vinyl… after two 7”s on enfant terrible they present this 6 track ep… stripped down through the years from a band to a duo the sound also changed… the songs on this ep are more up-tempo, louder, more beat orientated… and also darker as before mostly… and… for sure more dance floor minded… expect some classic minimal synth tunes in line with el aviador dro and welle: erdball for example but also more punchy tracks with ebm influences… staatseinde 2.0 has arrived!

violent sounds… savage grounds released their first three records with lux rec… of which one of the members from this swiss duo is the label boss… this new ep is the first release coming out elsewhere… savage grounds have created a sound of their own… a sort of post-techno which combines elements of techno, elektro, ebm, acid and industrial… but these tracks will for sure also appeal to lovers of analogue synth music… the whole ep sounds like it has been recorded in an one take synth jam… raw and fierce synth sounds for the body and soul…

since making their debut on the imprint in 2013 with blue aconite, the italian duo hiver has since released two more eps on curle. kicking off the ep is elipse, a stunning four-minute track that nods to avant-garde artists such as wolfgang voigts gas alias or brian eno, as the pair gradually weaves several layers of shining, atmospheric tones before slowly fading into the background

let your brain slowly melt to the delightful sounds of dima disk. having first heard their music via the palace x bronze skate video a year or so ago, we did a bit of digging and it turned out to be by a duo called dima disk, one half of whom was an old glasgow pal called ragnar and robert nikolajev from tallinn s legendary club lekker. you may have heard their recent ripper on porridge bullet. having been fans of the shit coming out of estonia for a good few years and also having a thing for releasing music from our glasgow connections we felt that this needed to come out as a rad 12-.

next up on our album manoeuvres we head back up to sheffield. hiem are back with their 3rd album, the galactic cornucopia that is hotspace. it is a fine follow up to the 2013 escape from division street released here on nang. hiem consist of dynamic duo of nick eastwood & bozzwell (he was the live vocalist for -the all seeing i- who scored a worldwide hit with the beat goes on in 1998). we have always thought of hiem as one part grown-up dance pop, one part fine 80 s tinged songs and one part slightly weird and quirky. the third album doesn t disappoint managing to cram all those descriptions (and more) across ten fine songs.

acid test continues their journey with the return of achterbahn damour. on their first proper release in three years, jool & iron curtis patiently craft an intricate sound world - with the opening track, major-key pads hearken towards a bright future, hi-hats rustle like leaves and on dehaveland, percussive elements fall into beautiful, random unison like factory machines staging an after hours dance. samuel van dijks vaunted vc-118a project steps up for a remix, turning in a taut techno version that unfurls smoke pillars of ghostly ambience. the duo wraps up the four-tracker with an unexpected dreamy electro turn, dont talk to me. throughout acid test 13, they remain in lockstep with the labels ethos - to bend, hammer and flatten acid lines into new, imaginative shapes

brand new glastonbury production duo speakman sound team up with frankie forman for the palliative psychedelic dance stylings of latest single warm. warm follows the breakneck success of debut single in flight which became a top viral track on spotify while being touted by key tastemakers including 6music’s lauren laverne, radio x’s john kennedy, soho radio’s eddie temple morris and radio 1’s huw stephens, monki and phil taggart. the latter commendations led to the brothers being offered a slot on the bbc introducing stage at glastonbury for a ram-packed homecoming. brothers todd and guy, the duo behind speakman sound, spent their childhood in the glastonbury area immersed in music through their father, a guitarist in psych-rock scene including bands such as hawkwind. growing into adolescence against a backdrop of rave culture in somerset shaped the psychedelic tinged future bass sound they create in their studio in north london today. warm is a sonic embrace, a trip into the uterine comforts of music. a rolling kick drum structures it, ostensibly four-on-the-floor, but with syncopated fibrillations, the sound of a heart skipping a beat. with frankie forman’s brilliant, mantra-like vocal and tobie tripp’s sweeping strings, warm reminds us of the comfort we find in music. enveloping in its beauty, it’s the latest majestic entry into speakman sound’s unique and beatific body of work. that the speakman brothers are producers in their own right should come as no surprise. having received a start-up grant for a studio in cricklewood, they have built an artistic hub from scratch and are surrounded by a creative coterie of young musicians and talented artists practicing across film and music in north london where they hold regular late-night jams and parties.

rabotnic is back to paragram with new interesting project raborb. victor lihonosov and alexander kuredenko are raborb, moscow based duo founded in 2015. rabotnic is one of those standout names amongst the current wave of young russian producers and orbet supertalented producer who have a lot of secret weapons. greek producer markos spanoudakis aka kreon has made really nice remix.

left ear are re-introducing another ten lost tracks from nicholas georgieff and virgil work, st louis basement electronics duo workdub. the release spans material from 1989-95 and includes recordings from their sole lp and both cassette albums. workdubs music hardly fits into a vacuum and some might even say it’s otherworldly. tracks like reach for the stars and lunar module reflect dreams of space-age exploration, all the while their investigation into drum machines, synthesizers, samples matched with their organic live instrumentation work to create a unique atmospheric dubbed out sound.
